How To Set Up ActiveCampaign Automations

One very important aspect of any online business is email marketing. There are numerous email autoresponders out there, but today I’m going to show you all about ActiveCampaign automation.

ActiveCampaign is a favorite email autoresponder among online marketers because it’s easy to use and quick to set up.

I’m going to show you how to set up your ActiveCampaign account so you can start sending out automations. In this article, I’m going to break down step-by-step how to get started. You’re going to learn exactly how I quickly and simply do it so you can do it too.

Making A List

The first thing to do is to make a list. A list houses your email subscribers once they opt in. Each list has a distinct purpose.

For example, you could have a list of subscribers who have purchased. You could also have a list of subscribers who downloaded a lead magnet you have or took some other action.

It’s important to treat each list differently. You’re not going to try to get the sale from someone who already bought that product. You’re not going to try to get someone to take action when they already did.

Your approach to each list is unique to the list they are on.

That’s why making different lists is important to your email marketing campaigns.

Here are the steps to creating a new list:

  1. Go to new automation
  2. Click on Subscribes to a List
  3. Choose a list for them to be added to
  4. Give your list a name
  5. Add a tag
  6. Name the tag
  7. Click save
  8. Change it from inactive to active

That’s all you need to do to create a new list for your automation.

Setting Up An Automation

In order to set up an automation in ActiveCampaign, you need to return to automations. When we set up the automation, it’ll be based on the tag we just added to that new subscriber when we created our list.

So whenever that tag is added to that person, it’s going to do the task you set up in ActiveCampaign, for example, send an email.

When setting it up to send an email, you need to first select or make a template to use. You can make your own templates so you don’t have to create one each time you send out an email. You just select the pre-made template.

Next you need to name the automation. This all becomes systems that you formulate by setting these things up. You start to figure out what works for you and for your business.

So in the future, it becomes very quick to send an email because you already have all the pieces put together.

When the tag is added, it’s going to send out the email. We can also add a wait period. For example, you could set it up to go out on a specific day or wait for one hour before sending the email.

Be sure to set the automation to active. This allows ActiveCampaign to know you want this automation to start.

Everything You Can Do With Automations

There are endless possibilities you can do in terms of automation to make it work for your business.

So what is everything you can do with automation in ActiveCampaign?

There are many options. Here are a few:

  • Send an email
  • Send a text message
  • Do if/else statements (if the person does an action then do this…)
  • Split and choose how to distribute contacts
  • Go to another action
  • Set up a goal
  • End the automation

And more. With ActiveCampaign, you’ll be able to set up your automation and send your emails in the best way for your business.

So now that we have everything set up in this example, this is how the automation works. First, as soon as the person subscribes to our list, they’re going to be tagged and then they’re going to be sent an email immediately.

After one hour, the tag will be removed from that subscriber and the automation will end.

To recap, basically all you want to do is make a list, set up the tags inside your automation for that list, set up an automation for that tag so emails automatically go out to that list.

This is probably one of the easiest ways to do email marketing. ActiveCampaign is going to do what it does best and that is to send out emails automatically based on the tags you set up.

And that’s it. It’s that simple. We just set up our first automation.

ActiveCampaign is a great choice for an autoresponder. It eliminates confusion and makes the email marketing process simple for its users and saves them time.
